We all love to laugh – but laughing until we almost cry is incredible! It makes for a hell of a movie too. What comedies of 2009 did you love the most? Which ones were the funniest? Did any make you laugh until you cry? What if you maybe missed out on a couple because you weren’t sure how they would be or maybe you just overlooked a movie throughout the year? Well, below, you’ll find a list of the top 10 comedies of 2009. Most of them are in no particular order but the #1 is definitely the #1 of the year!
#1 – The Hangover
The Hangover by Warner Bros.
Starring Bradley Cooper (darn good eye candy!) and Ed Helms, The Hangover is definitely the funniest movie of 2009. The movie is based on the aftermath of a bachelor party in Las Vegas! As you can imagine, the scenarios they’ll run into aren’t exactly the same as if they had gone to Disneyland! Three groomsmen, including the best man, wake up the next morning completely hung-over to find that the groom is missing! Not only is the groom missing but they have somehow managed to lure a tiger into the bathroom and a baby into the Caesar’s Palace suite!
Despite being hung-over and hardly remembering anything from the night before, they have to attempt to retrace all of their steps and bad decisions from the night before to find their friend, the groom, so he can make it to the alter in time for the wedding in Los Angeles.
Did you like it? If you did then you are like me and can’t wait for the sequel to come out next year! The date is currently scheduled for May 26, 2011.
If you haven’t seen it – go rent it – NOW!
#2 – I Love You, Man
This is definitely a funny movie and Paul Rudd plays his part well. Paul Rudd plays a real estate agent that comes to realize that he has no “guy” friends after he has proposed to his girlfriend. He begins to go on man-dates (YES, man-dates!) and a few later, he meets a man that he can have a bromance with. But this bromance turns into a lot of mayhem throughout the movie.
Definitely a movie to get out there and rent – it will keep you laughing.
#3 – Zombieland
Zombieland. Definitely a bit of blood and gore but without a doubt a good adventure and laugh. Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenburg together fighting off zombies is enough to make you think that it’s got to be a funny movie. If you are looking to have a laugh tonight while watching a great script and a nice put together group of cast, then Zombieland should on your list to take to Blockbuster with you.
#4 – The Proposal
Starring beautiful Sandra Bullock and handsome Ryan Reynolds, The Proposal was one of my favorites – but I’m a sucker for the romance comedy niche (and hot guys!). Bullock knows one thing and that’s work. She ends up being forced into saying that she is in a relationship (well, actually an engagement) with her assistant, Reynolds, so that she is not deported back to Canada and lose her high-ranked book editor position. He agrees, against his better judgment, and they begin on a fun-filled adventure to Alaska to meet his family. We can’t forget to mention that Betty White, his grandmother in the movie, starts in this romantic comedy with the two popular stars, which makes the whole thing worthwhile. It is a movie I can watch over and over again but then again most of Bullock’s movies are that way.
#5 – Funny People
Adam Sandler fan? If you are then for you are good reason of course. Funny People stars Adam Sandler as George Simmons, who is a famous comedian that suddenly finds out he is suffering from a fatal illness. This news takes him back to his stand-up days where he meets a new comedian (Seth Rogen) that he decides to turn into his personal assistant and his own opening act. During this time, he also attempts to chase after his ex-girlfriend, who might I add is now married. Eventually, Simmons’ life is unveiled as lonely and unrewarding.
#6 – Extract
This was is a funny movie but in a different style than the first two listed. Extract is an ironic, poignant comedy that has Jason Bateman as the lead role. Jason Bateman stars as a successful flower extract plant owner who is struggling with marriage issues as well as wanting to sell his business. He is uptight while his best friend, played by Ben Affleck, is a pothead.
#7 – World’s Greatest Dad
Robin Williams plays a dad and high school poetry teacher, Lance Clayton, in this movie that ultimately learns that the things in life you want aren’t always the ones that will make you happy. He also learns that being alone and being lonely do not necessarily have the same meaning. Clayton originally believed that he would grow up to be rich and famous but life took another turn down another road for him. His son won’t give him the slightest time of day and his girlfriend doesn’t want to go public with their relationship. It isn’t until he is brought face-to-face with the opportunity to be the things that he wants does he realize it may just not be worth it because of the way he got there. Definitely a great, funny storyline.
#8 – Land of the Lost
Land of the Lost stars Will Ferrell as a paleontologist, Dr. Rick Marshall, that has invented none other than a time machine. Alongside Holly, his assistant, and redneck fireworks salesman (not by choice, though), they test the machine, which takes them all back in time stranded among dinosaurs and other death-defying creatures. In the entire mess, they have lost the time machine and must find it in order to return home. I wouldn’t say that it is Ferrell’s best movie but it has enough action and comedy to keep one interested.
#9 – The Informant!
To be honest, when I first saw this movie preview I thought Matt Damon was a bit creepy. However, he brings creepy to a new level in this movie. Damon stars as the main character in this movie, Matt Whitacre, who is based on a true story from the 1990’s and is a little on the chubby side suffering from bi-polar disorder. He is the vice president of a gigantic agri-business firm and ends up turning on his co-workers to spy on them for the government but he sucks at it, which is where the laughter comes in.
#10 – Up
Gotta get one in here for the kiddos. Pixar’s Up is full of funny scenes but also has its poignant ones in there. A 78-year-old elderly man ties balloons to his home, he sets sail into the air to explore and view the South America wilds. However, he isn’t alone on this trip as an 8-year-old obnoxious young boy has climbed his way into the journey. It’s a truly emotional journey with a ton of laughs thrown in during all the right times.
